Environmental Resilience, Climate and Sustainability

Prof. Ing. Lucia Bednárová, PhD. is a Professor at the Technical University of Košice, Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Process Control and Geotechnologies, Slovakia. Her academic and research work focuses on management, economics of earth resources, strategic management, project management, green marketing, circular economy, environmental management, and intercultural management. She has extensive experience in university teaching, research, journal publication, and project coordination.

She has held academic positions as Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor at universities in Slovakia and Poland. She has also contributed to several international and national research projects, including H2020, V4, APVV, VEGA, and KEGA initiatives. Her professional experience includes work in environmental management systems, environmental accounting, benchmarking in SMEs, project support, and sustainable development-related activities.

Prof. Bednárová holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering and has additional qualifications in university pedagogy and engineering education. She is proficient in Slovak, English, and Polish and has an ORCID: 0000-0002-8582-0643, Web of Science ResearcherID: M-8238-2014, and Scopus Author ID: 35084958700.

Professional Biography

Dr Wilfred Ochieng Omollo is an Urban and Regional Planner with over 20 years of professional experience in physical planning, development control, land use management, and strategic spatial planning. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography at Kisii University, Kenya, and has served in both academia and government, with extensive experience preparing, implementing, and evaluating physical development plans, urban policy, and sustainable land use management. He holds a PhD in Urban Planning, an MA in Urban and Regional Planning, and a BA in Geography (GIS and Remote Sensing).

Throughout his career, Dr. Omollo has contributed to professional practice through the preparation of strategic plans, physical development plans, institutional master plans, policy formulation, development control, and capacity building in physical and land use planning. He serves as a member of the Physical Planners Registration Board of Kenya, where he contributes to the Board's Strategy Committee, and is a Corporate Member of both the Kenya Institute of Planners and the Architectural Association of Kenya (Town Planning Chapter). He has also supported curriculum development in spatial planning and provided planning consultancy to public institutions.

Dr. Omollo has published extensively in reputable international journals on urban planning, development control, land use planning, spatial governance, and geospatial technologies. He has served as Guest Editor for the Journal of Contemporary Urban Affairs and as a peer reviewer for numerous internationally recognised journals, including the International Journal of Geographical Information Science, International Journal of Remote Sensing, European Journal of Remote Sensing, and Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management. His recent publications include studies in the Journal of Parks, Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management, and the Journal of Settlements and Spatial Planning.

Dr Omollo's professional interests include physical and land use planning, development control, urban governance, strategic planning, GIS and remote sensing applications, environmental planning, and evidence-based spatial decision-making. He continues to contribute to professional practice through research, policy advisory, postgraduate supervision, and the promotion of sustainable and resilient urban development

Dr. Min-cheng (Mason) Tu is an Assistant Professor in the Program of Environmental Science at the College of Coastal Georgia, USA. He earned his PhD in Water Management and Hydrological Science from Texas A&M University. His research focuses on hydrology, stormwater management, environmental modeling, GIS, remote sensing, climate resilience, urban heat islands, and nature-based solutions. He serves as an Associate Editor and Guest Editor for international journals and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading environmental science journals.

Maria Gabriela Fragoso Soares Pereira Meirelles holds a Diploma in Physics from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1992), a Master’s degree in Geophysics (Meteorology) from the University of Lisbon, Portugal (1997), and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of the Azores, Portugal (2009), with a specialization in Geophysical Sciences. She lectures in areas including meteorology, atmospheric sciences, climatology, general physics, physics for biology, and geophysics at undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research focuses on Climate Change, with particular emphasis on its implications for Health, Energy, and Food Security. She has presented her work at several scientific conferences and has published in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, she has supervised Master’s theses and serves as a reviewer for various scientific journals.

Dr. Moses Jeremiah Barasa Kabeyi is an engineer, researcher, and academic specializing in energy systems, sustainable energy transition, industrial engineering, power generation, and energy sustainability. He holds a Doctor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering from Durban University of Technology, South Africa, as well as a Master of Science in Mechanical and Production Engineering (Energy), a Master of Project Planning and Management, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical and Production Engineering.

He has served as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, at Durban University of Technology, where his activities include research and publication, postgraduate supervision, teaching, conference participation, research proposal development, and academic networking. He has also held academic positions at the University of Nairobi, Kirinyaga University, Technical University of Kenya, Technical University of Mombasa, Egerton University, and Mt. Kenya University. His professional experience also includes engineering and management roles in power generation and industrial operations, including work with Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), Nzoia Sugar Company, Pan African Paper Mills, and Varsani Brake Linings. His research and professional interests are strongly focused on sustainable energy systems, renewable energy, power generation, energy optimization, energy transition, and environmental sustainability. Dr. Kabeyi has an extensive publication and reviewing record, including research articles, conference papers, book chapters, and contributions related to sustainable energy transition, renewable energy, biogas, energy storage, smart grids, power generation, life-cycle assessment, and environmental impacts of energy systems.

Dr. Chinedu Donatus Ani is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geology, Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre of Excellence in Environmental Management and Green Energy (CEMAGE). He holds a PhD in Applied Geophysics and possesses over 25 years of experience in geophysics, environmental management, climate risk assessment, geospatial analysis, and disaster risk reduction. His research focuses on climate resilience, environmental sustainability, groundwater assessment, flood susceptibility mapping, environmental geohazards, and geospatial modeling. Dr. Ani has published extensively in reputable international journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science and actively contributes to multidisciplinary environmental and climate-related research initiatives.
