Climate Adaptation

Climate adaptation refers to the process of adjusting natural and human systems in response to actual or expected climate change impacts to reduce vulnerability and enhance resilience. It focuses on managing risks such as rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, sea-level rise, extreme weather events, and ecosystem shifts. Adaptation strategies include improving water resource management, developing climate-resilient agriculture, constructing climate-proof infrastructure, restoring ecosystems like mangroves and wetlands, and implementing early warning systems for disasters. It also involves policy planning, community-based resilience programs, and integrating climate considerations into urban and regional development. Unlike mitigation, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, climate adaptation focuses on coping with the unavoidable effects of climate change. Strengthening adaptation measures is essential for protecting lives, sustaining livelihoods, and ensuring long-term environmental and socio-economic stability.
